Dear PAES Friends and Families,

It is such a privilege to write this letter to you.  When I started teaching here at PAES in 2017, we had somewhere around 195 students and about one classroom per grade.  Seven years later, our enrollment PreK-8 is 309, we have nearly two classrooms per grade, and the whole facility has gotten a facelift inside and out from new carpet to lighting to paint.  We also have an almost entirely different teaching staff due to both retirements and school growth.  It is incredible, the changes PAES has gone through, and we have thrived due to your generous donations, hard work of our previous administrators and fantastic staff, our constituent churches, and support from our PAES family. The future is bright!

We have two major needs this year.  Our big project that we will do fundraising for later this year is a new roof requiring over a million dollars.  As we have felt this need dripping down in our gym and hallways a few times over the last year, we are grateful our facilities manager keeps the leaks at bay.

Our more pressing need is helping the more than 65% of our families who require some kind of financial assistance.  Most are making it work with the aid given, but some can’t.  As of November, we have 16 families who don’t know how they will finish out the year.  Some have multiple students and the monthly amount is just too much.  Others are trying to pay off their previous outstanding balance plus the current tuition.  We would love for a donor to take care of that back amount for some, or just help lower the monthly payment for others.  Is that person you?

The balance between business and mission is a delicate one. If you have specific questions or desire a more in-depth conversation about these or other needs, I would welcome an email or phone call.

We exist to shine the light of Jesus into our community, and to unlock the potential of every child.  The teachers are working hard to do their part in this.  The parents are working hard to keep their children here.  Would you be willing to partner with us as well?  As you review your end-of-year-giving, please consider Portland Adventist Elementary School.  When you give to the Worthy Student Fund, the money will go straight to these 16 students and any overflow will go to the many others who are seeking assistance, both current and future. You will receive a tax-deductible receipt.

PAES is blessed to have such a giving community.  No matter how large or small, every donation is greatly appreciated and directly benefits our students.  We welcome all payment methods in-person, and checks can be mailed to 3990 NW 1st St, Gresham, OR 97030. We also accept online donations at paes.com/donate.

I appreciate your consideration and hope you have a most blessed holiday season.
